Initial report from county’s data analytics group points to the need for more resource sharing between public authorities

Worcestershire’s recently formed Office of Data Analytics (WODA) has highlighted four key drivers and the need for resource sharing to provide for better public services in the county.

The organisation, which was set up in the autumn of last year to promote data sharing and analytics across Worcestershire’s public sector, has highlighted the features following interviews with more than 40 operational and strategic officers from different organisations.

Chief data officer and WODA founder Neill Crump said this confirmed a strong desire to share and make better use of data.

An initial report has pointed to the need for a multi-agency portal to support secure data sharing to support social services: a single view platform for data analytics; an information sharing gateway to provide assurance of data protection; and a roadmap to analytics to support decision-making.

The latter would help to map assets for initiatives such as the local strategic transformation partnership for health and social care and One Public Estate.

Collaboration steps

“Across Worcestershire, public services want to deliver the best outcomes cost effectively, and have taken steps to collaborate to do this,” said Crump (pictured).

“At one level this is about working together and sharing data which would mean that across the county strategic decision makers and frontline staff can be sure that they are armed with the fullest possible information to make informed decisions and interventions. This means too, that evaluation of the impact of those decisions can be fed back more frequently so that service design changes can be made in an agile and iterative rather than 'big bang' way.

“To achieve this goal we have looked at how data is currently shared, how data should be shared in future and what needs to be done to get there.”

WODA has compiled a report on the issue and said it will be sharing what it has learned from its first round of research at a free-of-charge event in Worcester on 27 February. More details and registration can be found here.
