Re-launched Local CIO Council ready for action

The Local CIO Council (LCIOC) has merged with Socitm Futures to provide a unified voice for front line service ICT professionals across the UK. LCIOC chair, Hampshire CC's CIO Jos Creese, sees the role of the new Council as "helping our professional colleagues to harness technology in order to deliver better public services at lower cost". Creese believes that there is a fundamental role for technology in modernising and reforming how public services work that goes far beyond efficiencies: "Virtually all the government's ambitions - for transparency, a smaller state, more innovation - are dependent on technology. Shared services or mobile and flexible working, for example, are also underpinned by technology. Combining the LCIOC with Socitm Futures, he adds, pulls together a rich mix of skills, resources, experience and leadership to help further the development and implementation of Socitm's local ICT strategy, Planting the Flag.
