eForms in a Digital Britain - Intelligent forms and efficient service delivery

Our roundtable debate - broadcast live over the web - on the findings of LGITU magazine's research into electronic forms.

In the research, across local and central government, two findings leap out:

  • 96% of respondents believe that eForms can cut the cost of processing customer transactions
  • Just 58% believe that eForms can be easily integrated with existing back office systems

Interviewees from BIS, the MoJ, Hampshire County Council and Adobe explore both the findings and their own experiences in implementing large scale eForm projects. The panel agreed that full integration with back office systems was key to delivering savings. It was indeed difficult to achieve back end integration - requiring open and honest analysis of process workflows and forward planning - but the results that could be achieved in terms of savings and service transformation are more than worth the task.

In the face of savage cuts in future public sector budgets, I feel that this debate is both timely and fascinating. My panel includes:

  • Craig Belsham, Head of PSC Delivery, EU Services Directive Implementation Team - Single Point of Contact - Department for Business, Innovation & Skills
  • Nigel Kelly, e-Working Project Manager, Access to Justice Group Ministry of Justice
