Evolution of local e-government and frontline service delivery

UKauthorITy.com has been tracking the evolution of technology enabled public service delivery since April 2001 - as the local e-gov programme accelerated the drive for 'modern government' then morphed under Gershon and Varney into the Transformation Agenda in the quest to deliver 'citizen-centric' services.

As a quick walk down memory lane shows, however, the same issues crop up time and time again: slower than expected progress, lack of joined up services, fears of digital exclusion and lack of engagement, breaches of privacy and breakdowns in trust.

Yet, overall, there is no denying the transformation in both council operations and service delivery from the application of technology.
