The Digital Office for Scottish local government is planning to provide a security operations centre (SOC) for the country’s local authorities.

It has reported that its chief information officer, Dave Ritchie, has begun to work with the national public sector procurement organisation Scotland Excel on high level descriptions of the services to be shared as part of a procurement process.

The Digital Office said that the SOC will involve a platform enabling local authorities to obtain 24-hour monitoring of all activity on their networks and remote devices to detect any potential breaches.

Scotland Excel’s digital category manager, Sam Whitehead, is also working on the project, and engaging with security officers.

The two organisations are also looking to create digital collaborative ventures in local government.
